What should I wear?

Being appropriately dressed can make the difference between feeling a bit miserable, especially in winter and feeling cold, or feeling great and ready to embark on any adventure so please read carefully….

Summer: A long sleeved top (to avoid scratches), a waterproof coat and trousers  or all-in-one (in case of rain), long trousers (not leggings or shorts), wellingtons or sturdy boots, sun hat/sun cream/insect repellent

Winter: At least 3 layers of clothing on the top, a warm waterproof coat and trousers or all-in-one, long, warm trousers and a layer underneath (e.g leggings), wellingtons or sturdy boots and at least 2 pairs of socks, warm hat, gloves and scarf.

Is it safe?

We carry out rigorous risk assessments of all activities, sites and groups as well as dynamic risk assessments throughout our sessions. From time to time children may get a scratch, bump or other injury from the types of activities we undertake. Whilst we make every endeavour to minimise unacceptable levels of risk, playing in a natural environment will involve a certain level of risk and learning to manage acceptable levels of risk is a vital part of a child’s development. We have strict adult: child ratios and children are given a safety briefing when new to our sessions. If play/activities are deemed to be unsafe they are stopped immediately and, with the children, we discuss alternative options.

Should parents stay?

Parents are only required to stay in our toddler/pre school group sessions. If you have a younger child attending holiday club and are worried about them integrating with the group then by all means stay as longs is necessary to make them feel settled.

What about the weather?

We run sessions come rain or shine.

The main limiting factors are high winds when it is dangerous to be in a wood and and heavy snowfall when the roads to Kilburn woods mean hazardous driving conditions. In both circumstances we would cancel and offer a refund or an alternative date. For further information see our terms and conditions.

Do you have insurance?

Yes, we have full public liability insurance.

Are there toilets on site?

There are no toilets at Kilburn woods. A drop toilet (a hole dug in the ground) is provided for adults and children behind a tarpaulin. If this is a little too wild for your little ones, then please bring alternative provision (e.g portable potty).

Holiday clubs: Please let us know if you think your child may struggle with this set up so that we can offer appropriate support or make alternative arrangements.

What about medical conditions/special needs?

We welcome all children and adults. Please get in touch in advance of your session if you or your child has any additional needs so that we can make appropriate arrangements and we will do our best to accommodate them.

What is your cancellation policy?

For full details of our cancellation policy please ready our terms and conditions which can be found at the footer of this page.

What about food?

Holiday clubs: Please provide your child with a packed lunch. We will provide additional drinks and snacks. Please make us aware of any food allergies when you book.

Nurseries/schools: We provide a drink and a snack each session. Sometimes a drink and a biscuit/toasted marshmallow, sometimes a delicious treat that the children have made themselves and cooked on the fire!

Toddler group: Full refreshments including tea/coffee for adults, water/juice for children, fruit and cake/some sort of baked good/whatever we cook on the fire! Plus toasted marshmallows depending on the day’s weather and activities.
