Monday mornings and Tuesday mornings 9.30am-10.45am

Please see below for specific dates but blocks of 6-7 x sessions run every half term.

Our toddler group is ideally suited to those tots who are walking, to pre-school children and home school children plus their parents/guardians who want to get outdoors, play in a natural environment, and natter ….come rain or shine!

What to expect

Our toddler group sessions follow a Forest School ethos which involves child led learning in a woodland environment. We provide all of the resources for children to explore this environment at their own pace including, for example:

  • muddy play
  • art, craft, mark making and creating
  • imaginative play
  • quiet time (including story books)
  • exploring the local flora and fauna
  • balancing, climbing and swinging

We also offer one structured activity each week. This may be cooking on the fire, a treasure hunt, a craft activity, storytelling – it varies according to the age of the children and their interests.

Sessions usually start with a quick welcome song and an explanation of that week’s activities and end with a sing song round the fire.

Refreshments

We provide tea and coffee for adults and juice/water/hot chocolate for children. Children also have a snack cooked on the fire at the end of the session.

The setting

The log circles are a 10 minute walk (with little ones) from the car park. They are both accessible with pushchairs. To get to the log circle on the right of the track you’ll just need to give us a shout and we’ll help you lift the pushchair over the (very small) stream.

Price and booking

Each block of sessions equates to £10 per session and a block is either 6 or 7 weeks longs depending on term length. Siblings over 1 years old are £4.50 per session. Sessions are booked in blocks of 6 or 7 consecutive sessions (1 x half term). Please contact us if you have any questions.

“I have been taking my kids to Yorkshire Forest Folk forest school at Kilburn for over a year. While the warmer months are a beautiful time in the woods, we also like to go during the colder months, both to get us outdoors regularly when it’s cold and also because Sophie and Emily do such a good job of making the group fun and inviting at any time of year. My eldest, who is now school age, used to love the craft/construction tasks, mud kitchens and digging around in the dirt best. On one very memorable occasion we all went mud sliding on our bottoms down a very steep slope! My youngest, who is two and a half, loves making fairy houses, painting with natural materials and following colourful trails through the woods. It goes without saying that we all absolutely love toasting marshmallows and Emily’s home baking! We look forward to forest school every week and would highly recommend it.” Mel, Mum of 3 year old and 5 year old

Yorkshire Forest Folk’s Forest School provided a unique environment for my son to explore and discover the wonders of a natural learning environment. Through Sophie and Emily’s care and support my son developed the confidence that enabled him to explore and initiate his own learning opportunities. The time we spent in the woods with the Yorkshire Forest Folk is treasured by us and has given my son a fantastic grounding for his enjoyment of the natural world. We have made lifelong friendships and I would encourage any family to put on their wellies and join in the fun.
Kirstie Mum of 4 year old boy
